That's why PEF is protesting the state Office of Mental Health's decision to move the children to the Buffalo Psychiatric Center campus, which currently only serves adults. "We have children as young as four years old who are separated from families, from caregivers, and it can be a traumatic experience to be separated from people you love," said Stephanie McLean-Beathley, a former employee of the CPC and a council leader for PEF, "They grow to become their family and are active in their treatment and their recovery." PEF has about 300 employees at the CPC, who often create a close bond with the young patients. This is about PEF members who work with a vulnerable population, giving a voice to a group of people who are voiceless," said Wayne Spence, president of the New York State Public Employees Federation. "This is about having a social conscience. Their members' jobs aren't at stake, but the Public Employees Federation says keeping the Hope Drive campus open is important for personal reasons. The union representing those who work at the facility is now urging Gov.
